Xiamen University has one of the earilest astronomy department in China. However, it only lasted a few years. Here you can find a brief history in Chinese.

The new astronomy department was re-established in 2012. Currently, we have 13 employees, including 10 full-time faculties, 1 faculty with a joint-appointment, and 2 staffs. Our research interests cover the theoretical and observational fields on high energy astrophysics and galaxy formation and evolution.  Our faculty members include 2 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 winners of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and 1 winner of the Chinese new century excellent talents program.
