Xiamen University has one of the earilest astronomy department in China. However, it only lasted a few years. Here you can find a brief history in Chinese. 

The new astronomy department was re-established in 2012. Currently, we have 22 employees, including 17 full-time faculties, 1 engineer, 1 faculty with a joint-appointment, and 3 staffs. Our research interests cover the theoretical and observational fields on high energy astrophysics, galaxy, star and exoplanet, cosmology, and astropaticle physics.  Our faculty members include 2 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 4 winners of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, 2 national high-level talents, and 4 national high-level young talents.
