Research

The field of nuclear and particle astrophysics addresses processes in the interplay of extreme phenomena at smallest and largest scales in the Universe. It is at the forefront of research in both high-energy particle physics and astronomy and is currently under rapid developments. We use fundamental particles to explore some of the most extreme objects in the universe, and use astronomical signals to explore physics beyond the Standard Model.

The Astronomy Department at Xiamen University has been carrying out diverse and fruitful studies on nuclear and particle astrophysics, on both the theoretical and observational regimes. The subjects being addressed include: fundamental properties of neutron star and other dense matter, detection of dark matter, phenomenology of neutrino physics, etc, covering many hot topics in multi-messenger astronomy. Our Department is presently involved in several major particle experiments and observational facilities, such as JUNO, Insight/HXMT, eXTP, HERD and FAST.
