Abstract:
The equation of state (EOS) is a concept in statistic physics, describing the relationship of various macroscopic quantities. One of the purposes of the studies on heavy ion reaction is to deduce the EOS of nuclear matter (nEOS), particularly for the system with neutron-proton number asymmetry. This quantity is of importance to understand neutron star physics.
Such task is not easy because nEOS is not the only unknown quantity in this specific process. An important fact is that the heavy ion reaction is a dynamic process, not necessarily an equilibrium one. So the study of nEOS is convoluted with that of collision dynamics. Given that the time scale of the reaction is at the order of 10-21 sec, a sophisticated isospin chronology is needed to visualize the transport of isospin degree of freedom before the nEOS can be quantitatively extracted.
This talk is about the heavy ion reaction, nuclear EOS and isospin chronology, all my love stories with nuclear physics.
