In this talk, I will briefly review some selected aspects of stellar cluster as the important probes to trace the structure and formation of the Milky way, and discuss how the Gaia, as well as other on going and coming survey programs, will impact on this research field. Finally, I will also briefly introduce some of our current researches related to the stellar clusters.
SHAO Zhengyi received his Bachelor degree of Physics from Peking University in 1990 and his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), CAS in 1996. During the years of service at SHAO thereafter, he has also visited Nottingham university, Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics, and University of Massachusetts Amherst. From 2005 to 2010, he was the chief professor of the group of 1.56m optical telescope at Sheshan station. His current research interesting is using the Bayesian method to combine the astrometric, photometric and spectrometric data from multiple major sky surveys to modeling the structure and stellar populations of nearby galaxies, as well as the components in the Milky Way.
