Abstract:

In this talk, I will present our survey of circumgalactic medium from z=2--6 through both emission and absorption. Using JWST, Keck, combined with the Subaru/HSC, ALMA and VLA, we studied the detailed kinematics of the circumgalactic medium (CGM). Combined with simulations, our observations suggest that CGM could be heavily metal enriched, and the recycled inflow play a vital role in star foramtion at high-redshift. This could be a reason of the rapid formation of the structure found by recent JWST observations. I will also talk about the future of MUltiplexed Survey Telescope (MUST).

Bio:

蔡峥，清华大学天文系长聘副教授，天文系副主任，深空技术中心主任。入选国家高层次人才计划和国家级青年人才项目。他于2008年和2015年分别于中国科学技术大学和美国亚利桑那大学获得理学学士和理学博士学位，并于2016年获得美国国家航空航天局（NASA）哈勃学者（Hubble Fellow）。2019年回国加入清华大学，致力于高红移星系、星际气体，大尺度结构相关研究，建立了甚大星云样本并为高红移气体内流进行了直接成像，获得第六届“科学探索奖”，清华大学学术新人奖（清华青年教师的最高学术荣誉），良师益友奖，并主演了励志纪实纪录电影《大学》。在包括《科学》、《自然-天文学》等国际知名杂志共发表文章100余篇，引用超过7000次。入选2023年度清华大学最受师生关注十大科研进展。此外，他正在领导建设国际最大光谱巡天设备：宽视场巡天望远镜（MUST）。
